A Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and mother figures out there in the world!!
And of course, with Mother's Day looming, the Friday news was all over all the reports of what it would cost to hire professionals to do the job of a stay at home mom.
I have nothing against stay at home moms. Everyone makes their own choices in life. It would not be a choice for me, but I know not everyone thinks the same as me.
But these reports bug me every year. I don't doubt that a stay at home mom or housewife provides services to her family that would cost around $170k if they were farmed out to professionals. But what about the middle-class working mom or housewife that puts in 40 (or more) hours a week who doesn't have a personal chef, daily cleaning service or any luxury?
Where is the news report that gives me something so I can turn to my husband and say "See? See how lucky you are I pick up your dirty tee shirts??"
Ah well.
Busy weekend around here, my aunt's boyfriend's 80th birthday party was today, which was fun. My cousin drove down from Michigan, and it's always fun to see her. The hubby had to skip it, his boss is out for two weeks and he's swamped at work doing her stuff and his. The funny points - my nephew when I walking in, asking me right away where my hubby was, the same nephew being told he had some carrot on his face and promptly picking it off and putting it on the top of his head. Youngest nephew babbling away (there was some suspicion that he might be deaf or part def with his lack of talking.... right now the suspicion might just be ear infection combined with allergies combined for a temporary lack of hearing... we'll see what happens).
Tomorrow is Mother's Day... early brunch with my mom, over to the in-laws for what I assume will be an afternoon of car washing and some takeout. I'm sure it will be fun.

Don't forget that the media who loves to do the "how much I am worth" around Mother's Day also assumes on the other 364 days that I (as a SAHM) lay around watching soaps and eating bon-bons all day.
Personally I do not believe that you can put a dollar amount on what I do. Nor do I believe that my choice is the best choice for every mom.
Those media figures really bug me, too.
I was even more bugged while we were in the car today and I heard an extended version of the report where they mentioned they calculated "CEO" as one of the "duties" of a SAHM. The majority of CEOs I have known do NOT have near as much to do in a day as any Mom!
